Bob Gray
Robert J. Gray was born in Poland in 1927 (given name Romuald Wladyslaw Vincenty Kaczmarek). Mr. Gray emigrated to the United States in 1947, served in the U.S. army from 1949-1952, and in 1953 became a U.S. citizen. He was employed at Bell Telephone Laboratories as a designer/illustrator from 1953 until his retirement in 1986.
Mr. Gray's interest in fine arts began when he was 13 years old and he has been drawing, painting, and sculpting since that time. His works include pen and ink, silverpoint, watercolor, egg tempura, and oil painting. During his youth in Poland, he was influenced by Da Vinci and Buonarroti. Then, after meeting and receiving critique from Master Pietro Annigoni in New York, his interests turned primarily to portraiture. He is fond of the old masters, particularly Rembrandt and Velasquez, as well as Impressionist artists. Mr. Gray has exhibited in galleries, primarily in New York and New Jersey, including the National Academy of Design and the Allied Artists of America. More recently he has participated in Open Studios in the Boston area where he resides.
